The Tubman-Chavez Multicultural Center (TCMC) has a long history of serving as a community center and gathering place for residents of southeastern San Diego. Unfortunately, in the summer of 2005, the TCMC was abandoned by its previous operator and had been closed to the public for nearly a year while falling into disrepair and becoming a community eyesore. Residents demanded that the TCMC be restored and resume serving the community. In 2006, the City of San Diego responded and selected the CNC to operate the center. The CNC is committed to maintaining a vital and vibrant Tubman-Chavez Multicultural Center at the heart of the community for years to come.
Today, the TCMC serves as both the headquarters for the CNC and as a community hub. Since the CNC took over the center, the TCMC has taken its previous existence to the next level and has become a place for southeastern San Diego residents to gather for a variety of events including family celebrations, church services, a networking with other community activists to discuss issues and concerns, meet with public officials and unite in positive action to establish sustainable commUNITY growth! Additionally, TCMC houses the district office for San Diego, District 4 Councilmember, Anthony Young.
The TCMC is the site for a number of programs and activities, including:
