Neighborhood Council Support Program

Grants
The CNC’s Neighborhood Council Support Program provides grants for neighborhood council projects that promote community participation and are consistent with the mission of the CNC. Funding priority will be given to projects that enhance the beauty, safety, and quality of life in the 4th District and/or strengthen relations among community members. Projects can include block parties, art programs, cultural events, street fairs, health fairs, clean-ups, community gardens, and other neighborhood council organized programs and activities. The grant program will not support events allowing alcohol or tobacco use and it will not support events that are not free to the community.

“The Coalition of Neighborhood Councils mission is to support
neighborhood councils, community based organizations and residents
to create, maintain and strengthen vibrant neighborhoods.”

Funding Range The CNC anticipates awarding a total of $2,500 in grants each quarter. Neighborhood councils may submit requests for up to $2,500; however, the typical grant award will not exceed $500.

How to Apply  Neighborhood Councils in the 4th District who have a designated member in good standing with the CNC are eligible and encouraged to apply. Please complete the CNC’s Neighborhood Council Support Program grant application as early as 6 months before, but no later than 30 days prior to your event.

Funding decisions will be made quarterly (November 2007, February, May, and August 2008)

Flyers
The CNC’s Neighborhood Council Support Program annually provides up to 250 flyers free-of-charge to neighborhood councils to help promote upcoming council meetings. It is intended that flyers will be distributed by the council throughout the neighborhood to help increase meeting attendance.

The CNC encourages and will print two-sided flyers to support translation into a second language common in your neighborhood. Neighborhood councils must commit to have a translator from the requested language present at its meeting for non-English speaking residents who may attend as a result of receiving a flyer.

As an additional service to neighborhood councils, the CNC will also regularly send specific information to new home buyers about the neighborhood council in their area. This will be done as a courtesy and does not require a request from the neighborhood council.

How to Request Flyers  Neighborhood Councils in the 4th District who have a designated member in good standing with the CNC are eligible to request flyers for distribution.

Please submit the CNC’s Neighborhood Council Support Program flyer request form along with your membership or previous meeting attendance list to the CNC Office at least three weeks prior to your meeting. Flyers will typically be ready for pick up within one week of your request.

Please return your flyer request form to:

Training
In 2006, the Coalition of Neighborhood Councils launched a monthly neighborhood council training program that began with a four part training series entitled “Building Community Participation.”

The purpose of these trainings is introduce the members of the different councils to resources available in our community to help them in their work to improve their neighborhoods. It is hoped that residents who attend these informative trainings take these resources and ideas back to each of their own councils.

Past Trainings:

  • Planning a Neighborhood Clean-up
  • Crafting a Neighborhood Newsletter
  • Organizing a Youth Council
  • Working with your Elected Representatives
  • Applying for Neighborhood Mini-Grants

To request copies of the training tips from any of these trainings, please call Franco at the CNC Office at (619) 325-3580.
