Southeastern San Diego is one of the most culturally diverse communities in San Diego County, and the CNC strives represent the communities that it serves, actively promoting diversity in our general membership, staff, and board of directors. CNC's general membership currently includes ethnically and socially-diverse resident leaders from southeastern San Diego's 23 neighborhood councils. Rounding out the grassroots participation in the CNC are additional southeastern San Diego residents not yet affiliated with a neighborhood council, leaders of community-based organizations serving the community, and other individuals committed to resident-led community developments.
Collectively, the CNC's staff, board, and area residents involved in our organization make decisions, sponsor activities and address issues that fulfill the mission of the CNC to build and support the 23 resident-led neighborhood councils in their mission and efforts to enhance their neighborhoods.
In recognition for the CNC's work in the community, the San Diego City Council drafted a resolution proclaiming October 28, 2008 to be "Coalition of Neighborhood Councils Day." In addition, the San Diego Foundation's IMPACT Program (Inspiring Management, Program Accountability, and Trust) found that "CNC's key organizational strengths include its people and their commitment to the organization, its knowledge of the community and ability to empower the councils and residents, and its focus on execution. In addition, CNC possesses a wealth of knowledge of the community as well as a unique ability to mobilize and empower the residents of southeastern San Diego through the Councils..Finally, CNC has a reputation for getting things done.
